ALL-STRAVINSKY PROGRAM
Study for pianola; Fanfare for a New Theatre; Lied ohne Name; Epitaphium; Three Pieces for string quartet; Ragtime; Concertino; “Dumbarton Oaks” Concerto in E-flat major; Eight Instrumental Miniatures; Concerto for piano and winds
Pre-concert lecture by Kendall Durelle Briggs, "The Chamber Music of Stravinsky," at 6:15 in the Stanley H. Kaplan Penthouse
From the angular Epitaphium and the jazzy Ragtime to the stately Baroque gestures of “Dumbarton Oaks,” this program traces the breadth of the career of iconic composer Igor Stravinsky. It begins with a playerless player piano; the stage is gradually filled by duos, then trios, then quartets, building to a chamber orchestra and culminating in the joyous Concerto for piano and winds.
Performance begins promptly at its scheduled time. There is no late seating.
This performance is approximately one hour and 40 minutes long, with one intermission.
This event corresponds to an evening course, “The Chamber Music of Igor Stravinsky,” being offered July 18–August 15 by The Juilliard School. Learn more and register online.
